History

The building was designed by Knox and Hutton in 1883 as the main offices for the Herald Newspaper in the Capital and although the ground floor retail space (Number 7) has been adapted over the years the upper floors ( Number 9) remained in office use until recently. It took 2 years for Kingsford to negotiate the purchase and achieve planning for Number 9 and after an extensive refurbishment of the building over 9 months the resulting conversion is 11 stunning new apartments in the very heart of Edinburgh's core central zone.

The building is located on a prime city center site in the very heart of Edinburgh's prime central zone. This area has undergone considerable improvement and significant investment has, and continues to, be made in the immediate surrounding area. St Andrew Square Garden itself was opened up to the public in 2008 following an investment of £2.6 million to make a delightful public green space which regularly features exhibitions and events and is well used throughout the day and features and innovate coffee pavilion. The square started its improvements with the addition of Harvey Nichols and the new designer retail parade at Multrees walk and has recently attracted prime office occupies such as The private bank Adam and Co and Virgin Money also taking a significant corner site. A little to the north the Scottish Portrait gallery has recently reopened following a £17.6 million refurbishment. South St Andrew St neatly links the square with Princess St ( and gardens) and the newly revamped Waverley train station. Historically South St Andrew Street was fairly busy street but now benefits from being pedestrianised and closed to traffic apart from the new tram which principal platform stop is a stones throw from the apartments entrance. Continued investment is ongoing in the Area with the exciting development of Edinburgh's first flagship Apple store planned to open in October 2013 opposite the 5 star Balmoral hotel literally both around the corner from the apartments and exciting new mixed use developments planned for the south west corner of the square. The transformation of the stunning GPO building around the corner princess St into grade A office is also attracting prime companies to the area such as Microsoft and Amazon. The area as a whole has a positive buzz to it now it’s an exciting time to be developing in this location.

Edinburgh's Harrods in the form of Jenners is just the other side of the square alongside retailers such as Marks and Spencer and Sainsbury's which are ideally placed for provisions and some of Edinburgh's best restaurants and bars all within a 5 min walk.
